MIssion of the First United Methodist Church Joaquin

Members of the Methodist Church gladly minister to our entire community, bringing the good news of God's love made known through Jesus, by witnessing the Gospel, sharing our lives, and being committed to the welfare of the others.  We strive to be a church where love is an action and not just a word.

God's Speed,

Grace and peace from our brother, Jesus. Sunday was the Sixth Sunday of Easter.  I hope no one forgot that it was Mother’s Day.  At Joaquin Methodist, the Youth Group gave carnations to all the women of the church.  I included in my sermon how important John Wesley’s mother was to him and his brother and sisters.  John was the 14th of 20 children.  That is pretty hard to comprehend—twenty children.

We had a small but spirited crowd at Paxton.  We send our best wishes and prayers to Keith.  Joy and Gene are traveling and will celebrate their anniversary this week.  Happy anniversary Joy and Gene!

It was great to see Austin and Jason at church today.  Janie and Peyton came to be with Lavonne on Mother’s Day and it was great to see them.  Tomorrow at Joaquin High School will be the Scholarship Program.  Joaquin Methodist will be giving local scholarships to several seniors at Joaquin. Those receiving a Methodist Scholarship and their families are invited to next Sunday’s 11:00 church service where they will be honored and the folks will have a chance to meet them.  The Church Council meeting was postponed until next Sunday.

After church Sunday the Youth Group is going to stay after church for “Dinner & a Movie.”  Everyone is invited.  The Scrapbooking Club is meeting Thursday morning to “scrap.”  Anyone who likes to do “scrapbooking” is invited to come.  Next Saturday at 2:00 the Brookland Cemetery will be dedicated as a historical site here in Texas.  The Brookland Cemetery across from Brookshires is the site of the first Methodist Church in Joaquin.

The Fundraiser for the victims of the shooting in Joaquin was a great success.  There were barbeque plates, bake sale, and an auction.   There were other booths and many things to do.  This coming together is one of the greatest things about living in a small town.  All of Joaquin is thankful for those who worked so hard to organize and put on such a successful day.

Services at Paxton United Methodist Church begin at 9:30 with Sunday School at 10:30.  Spanish language services are at 11:00 with the Rev. Carmelo Dominquez delivering the message. Sunday School at Joaquin Methodist is 10:00 and worship service begins at 11:00. Our website is at joaquinumc.com.  Our web master is Jason Gill. Our email address is at joaquinumc@hotmail.com and prayer requests can be sent there and we will post them on our website.  Take care and God’s Speed.
