MIssion of the First United Methodist Church Joaquin

Members of the Methodist Church gladly minister to our entire community, bringing the good news of God's love made known through Jesus, by witnessing the Gospel, sharing our lives, and being committed to the welfare of the others.  We strive to be a church where love is an action and not just a word.

God's Speed,

Happenings at Joaquin & Paxton United Methodist Churches

Sunday was the Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany.  The Gospel Lesson for Sunday began where last week’s left off.  Mark 1: 29-38 tells what Jesus did after he left the synagogue.  He heals many at Simon’s House and early the next morning gets up and finds a deserted place to pray.  In the Gospel Lesson for last Sunday and this Sunday we see two thinks important to our Savior.  First was to keep the Sabbath holy and secondly the importance to find a quiet place for prayer.  This month both churches will be collecting rice and dried beans.  Both churches celebrated Holy Communion Sunday morning.

We had a nice crowd at Paxton.  It was wonderful to have Ms. Hilda back playing the piano.  She makes us sound better than we are!  Hilda’s two sisters have been visiting and came last Friday to the Pine Grove Birthday Party.  It was always nice to see Steven Joe.  The Joaquin Methodist congregation was saddened to hear that our dear friend Avis Moss died this morning.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Barney, Craig, Buddy, Ginger, the grandkids, and all the rest of the family.  Avis was an active member of our church and friend to all.  We will certain miss her playing the piano among many, many other things.

We had a nice crowd at Family Night.  We had plenty to eat and plenty of conversation.  Pat Suhr joined us at Prayer Breakfast and we had prayers and then breakfast.  At Pine Grove on Friday we had one of the largest crowds ever.  We had folks from Tenaha, Paxton, and Joaquin Methodist helping with the singing, giving out gifts and cake and punch.  There was no cake left when we got through.  We sang many old favorites and Bro. Warr spoke about 1 Corinthians Chapter 13.

Ash Wednesday is February 22nd this year.  Joaquin Methodist will have a pancake supper at 5:00 and an Ash Wednesday Service at 6:00.  Everyone is invited to come.  This coming week there will be no Wednesday Bible Study.  Prayer Breakfast will be at 8:00 on Thursday.

Services at Paxton United Methodist Church begin at 9:30 with Sunday School at 10:30.  Spanish language services are at 11:00 with the Rev. Carmelo Dominquez delivering the message. Sunday School at Joaquin Methodist is 10:00 and worship service begins at 11:00. Our website is at joaquinumc.com.  Our web master is Jason Gill. Our email address is at joaquinumc@hotmail.com and prayer requests may be sent to joaquinumc@gmail.com and we will post them on our website.  Take care and God’s Speed
